Phew, we made it through the summer holidays. We all had so much fun doing things from our “Toddler Summer Bucket List” and now Amelia’s back to nursery.
Amelias been really unsure about going back to nursery. For the past couple of weeks, she’s been telling me she doesn’t want to go back – with no explanation.
The morning of her first day back was spent making sure we wouldn’t end up rushing to leave the house. If you’ve read my “Leaving the House with Toddlers” post, you’ll understand why I wanted to be prepared.
While making sure I had everything ready, Amelia kept asking “is it time to go yet?” which made me confident that she would be happy to go back.
After taking the usually “back to nursery” photos – We left quite early and rightly so as Amelia fell over – cutting her knee. Luckily I remembered to pick up the first aid kit before I left, knowing from experience that it was likely to happen!
When we got to the nursery, Amelia was happy enough to go in. She popped her bag on her peg and gave me a hug and kiss goodbye. This is when the tears started. Amelia said she didn’t want to stay. She wanted me to stay with her. After nearly 10 minutes, Amelia settled while sitting on her teachers lap. So we left.
I guess because things had changed around and there weren’t many familiar faces – this unsettled Amelia. I counted 6 children in the nursery when we left and that included Amelia. Compared to the almost 20 children that Amelia had known before the holidays, the nursery was empty!
The first day back at nursery was never going to be easy, for any of us. I just hope that Amelia has the best first day back and settles back quickly.
